It goes without saying how important VPN services, in tandem with proxies and other methods, are to avoid DNS filtering and the various forms of Internet censorship plans like SOPA and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) that are being formulated by US authorities at the behest of overzealous copyright holders.
One of those VPN services is Giganews’ VyprVPN, a setup guide for which I covered for desktop and Android devices earlier this year.
Not one to rest on its laurels, Giganews recently announced that its Golden Frog development team had updated the VyprVPN App to version 1.1. It promises that “Version 1.1 brings a cleaner user experience with several new features and bug fixes.”
The VyprVPN version 1.1 app includes:
Windows VPN description will now simply say “VyprVPN for Giganews”, rather than incrementing server location names after each reconnection, e.g., “Amsterdam (17)”, “Amsterdam (18)”, etc. on Windows Vista and Windows 7Windows 7 will now only ask for network type (Public, Work, Home) the first time the VyprVPN App for Giganews connects using PPTP or L2TP.Updates no longer require a reboot.Recent connections now work even if a user decides to not save their password. For the unfamiliar, the beauty of the VyprVPN app is the ease of switching between VPN protocols and server locations. Using a simple drop down user interface you can choose a server in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, CA, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Hong Kong; choose a protocol on that server to complete your connection.
I've been interested in P2P since the early, high-flying days of Napster and KaZaA. I believe that analog copyright laws are ill-suited to the digital age, and that art and culture shouldn't be subject to the whims of international entertainment industry conglomerates. Twitter | Google Plus
